A Ph.D. in food, agricultural, bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering or related field is required.

Position Summary:

The Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of Georgia is seeking a highly motivated and creative individual to develop an Extension and Research program in the area of food process engineering. The Department seeks applicants with expertise in food process engineering for an Extension faculty member with a secondary appointment in Research. The individual will support and advance the food and beverage industries in Georgia through expertise in processing/preservation technologies. Complimentary areas beneficial for the position include packaging systems, ingredient technology, toxicology, regulatory guidance, or microbial-based manufacturing. The University of Georgia recognizes and supports interdisciplinary programs. As such, the incumbent will be encouraged to collaborate with other faculty members across the Colleges of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Engineering, and Family and Consumer Sciences. The successful candidate will develop a nationally recognized Extension program that supports current Georgia-based food industries as well as aids new and developing food companies. The successful program may include seated and/or distance education workshops, independent and collaborative research that addresses stakeholder needs, and collaboration with faculty in fields related to business and marketing to fully support food entrepreneurs including food process approvals. With the growing number of food industries, there are many opportunities for the candidate to provide processors with the latest scientific and technical innovations to support the success and growth of their businesses. Research areas may include thermal and non-thermal processing, beverage production, fermentations, and/or packaging.

The preferred start date is January 1, 2022.

Additional Requirements:

For the rank of Assistant Professor, candidates do not need a minimum number of years in a lower rank unless the initial appointment was at the instructor level at the University of Georgia (https://provost.uga.edu/faculty-affairs/UGA_Guidelines_for_APT_approved_2_2020.pdf).

To be considered at the rank of Associate Professor, candidates must have at least 5 full years in rank at the Assistant Professor level before the start date.
