Description:

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Nephrology at Women’s College Hospital (WCH) are seeking to recruit an Academic Nephrologist with the position description of Clinician in Quality & Innovation (C-QI). The successful candidate must either already hold or be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. Effective start date is February 1st 2022 or a mutually agreeable date.

The successful candidate will hold an M.D. and FRCPC qualifications (or equivalent specialist designation) with certification in Nephrology. Applicants must have or be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. The ideal candidate will have advanced training in quality improvement (Masters in QI or equivalent) with specific clinical training and expertise in hypertension and cardio renal risk reduction, and in renal and hypertensive diseases in pregnancy. Excellence in general nephrology in both ambulatory and inpatient clinical teaching settings is essential. Expertise in teaching including formal training through completion of the Master Teacher Program or equivalent will be preferred. For applicants being considered for an appointment as a Clinician in Quality & Innovation, excellence will be assessed by advanced training in quality improvement or equivalent, successful quality improvement initiatives, evidence of practice and/or equipment innovations, and invitations to significant conferences, and accolades.

To maximize QI scholarly and clinical impact, the individual will be expected to re-focus and modernize the nephrology service at WCH so as to align with the Hospital’s strategic priorities, improve the patient experience and to incorporate excellence and innovation in virtual care. This will be undertaken in collaboration with colleagues at Women’s College Hospital and nephrology partners at the University of Toronto fully affiliated academic teaching hospitals. The candidate will participate as a member of the multidisciplinary complex blood pressure disorders/hypertension clinic at WCH and in the areas of obstetric nephrology and hypertension ambulatory care at Mount Sinai Hospital. In addition, the candidate will contribute approximately 6-8 weeks/year attending on the inpatient consultation service at an affiliated hospital.

Women’s College Hospital is the first independent, fully ambulatory hospital in Ontario and is a University of Toronto fully-affiliated teaching hospital. The ideal candidate will have academic aspirations that are aligned with the mission, vision, and values of WCH. Women’s College Hospital is committed to advancing and advocating for the health care options for all by researching, evaluating, teaching, disseminating, and delivering new treatments and models of system-integrated care. Four broad themes are at the core of the hospital and the Department of Medicine’s strategic focus: health system solutions; care and care experience; sustainable, world-class research, innovation, and education; and health for women and equity for all. Women’s College Hospital is the home of the University of Toronto Centre for Ambulatory Care Education (CACE), WCH Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV) and Women’s College Research Institute (WCRI).

Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Compensation will also depend upon the amount of clinical work performed but will be in the usual range for an experienced academic nephrologist in the Province of Ontario at a minimum of approximately $230,000 per year.

Applications will be accepted until December 23, 2021 or until the position is filled.
