Post-Doctoral Research Associate- NIMBioS

We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary team researching potential impacts of climate and land use change on species’ ranges, and how consideration of these impacts should inform conservation strategies. The post-docs will join a team researching these issues in a set of projects focused on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in the central and southern Appalachians and the Southeastern U.S. more broadly.

Funding is available to support one position for at least 2.5 years. The successful appointees will be based in the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis and Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The post-docs will work closely with research groups managed by Paul Armsworth, Mona Papeş and Xingli Giam.



Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:

Appointed individuals will have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., ecology, environmental science, geography, statistics, computer science) by the time of hire. Excellent quantitative skills and experience with GIS and spatial data are essential. Experience with one of either modeling of aquatic systems, land use change modeling, or spatial optimization in conservation is desirable, as is experience with species distribution modeling / ecological niche modeling. The post-docs will liaise with stakeholders drawn from policy and practice as well as researchers from other disciplines (economics, governance, computer sciences) and excellent communication skills are essential.
