Under the general direction of the Assistant Controller, this position is responsible for all aspects of the Asset Management function including data analysis, reporting, training, and supervision. In addition, this position provides critical support to the Capital Projects function by maximizing cash flow, analyzing data, and reporting.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serving as an asset management expert by writing, revising, and implementing policy and procedures
  • Taking a lead role in the statewide equipment inventory function
  • Overseeing sponsor-funded equipment reporting
  • Teaching IRIS classes and assisting the IRIS Help Desk with questions
  • Responsibility for month-end and year-end closing processes, reports, and financial statements
  • Maximizing cash flows for university capital projects through reimbursement from outside sources (state, federal, other)
  • Managing University Contractor Retainage Program in accordance with state law
  • Serving as the university's primary contact for Edison (the State of Tennessee's ERP system)
  • Assisting the Financial Specialist and Assistant Controller positions as needed and serving as a substitute in their absence
  • Supervising the Asset Management group including an Accounting Specialist and student employees
    • Sets priorities for the team
    • Determines deadlines
    • Monitors work progress
    • Provides instruction, advice, and assistance as needed

Required Qualifications

A bachelor's degree is required. Two years of accounting experience is also required. 

Additional required competencies include:

  • Intermediate knowledge of accounting principles
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
  • The ability to learn new software
  • The ability to analyze data and make independent decisions
  • Excellent communication skills to work successfully with a wide range of stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications

A degree in business or a closely related field is preferred. Two years of higher education experience and university accounting experience are preferred. Experience with SAP, IRIS, or other ERP system is also preferred.
