Organizational Unit Overview:

This position resides within the Department of Public Health. The Coordinator/Manager will be responsible for post-award grants management for faculty of the Department of Public Health (DPH), School of Dental Medicine (SoDM), and Centers for Health Disparities (CHD).

Job Duties :

This position reports to the Department Chair of Public Health, through the hub supervisor and will have responsibilities in post-award with priority in the areas of research funding management and budgeting and related functions.

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure all grant and contract funding is expended according to the terms of the awards.

The individual in this position is responsible for the collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of quantitative information.

This college-level position assists faculty, staff and students with post-award administration of externally funded grants and contracts as well as internal research related grants.

The Grants Coordinator/Manager is the liaison between faculty members and departments engaged in funded research projects and a range of central university offices responsible for post-award grant administration including the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Office of Grants and Contracts, the Office of Clinical Trials, regulatory compliance, budgetary and fiscal management.

This position provides post- award grant support for faculty and students engaged in a broad range of research and workforce training projects.

The funding portfolio includes projects funded by extramural grants, faculty startup funds, institutional state funds and indirect cost accounts.

The support provided is partly programmatic: strategic planning for growth in research programs and research culture, development of interdisciplinary scientific and clinical research projects and graduate research training program development.

Responsibilities include budgetary and account management, regulatory compliance and reporting, grant preparation and internal review, quality control, transactional troubleshooting, and collaboration with central university grant administration offices, central budget offices and external funding agencies.

Development of policies and procedures to enusrethe school remains in compliance with all state and university rules and regulations

Minimum Education/Experience :

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related area from an appropriately accredited institution OR
a Bachelors degree Business Administration, Public Administration, or related area from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of 5 years prior experience in a position with comparable financial and administrative responsibilities and comparable compliance duties.

Knowledge of programs and procedures of granting agencies, including federal agencies (e.g., NIH, NSF, DOD) as well as corporate and private foundations and sponsors, and knowledge of relevant OMB regulations. Knowledge of accounting principles, fund accounting, financial reporting, internal control systems, and budgeting and financial analysis.

Experience in online accounting/financial management/administrative systems.

Expertise in using computing tools such as spreadsheets, databases, report writing and word processing tools.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and to follow through and complete projects with minimal supervision.

Demonstrated management, communication, facilitation, and customer service skills.

Demonstrated oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of privacy and confidentiality.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and constructively with faculty, staff, administration, and sponsors in a fast paced, service- focused environment.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification.

Familiarity with the ECU research environment, ECU Office of Sponsored Programs, ECU grants procedures (e.g., RAMSeS), and ECU rules, regulations, and policies.

Familiarity with interdisciplinary, multi-site, and training grants.

Ability to work well and efficiently with faculty, staff and community members from a wide variety of educational, scientific disciplines, and cultural backgrounds.
