East Carolina University (ECU; http://www.ecu.edu) is a doctoral-granting university, and a member of the 17-campus University of North Carolina System. The University enrolls approximately 29,000 students, with over 5,500 pursuing graduate and professional degrees. ECU is located in Greenville, North Carolina (population 94,822), which lies approximately 80 miles east of Raleigh and is a short distance from the Atlantic Coast. The Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences is home to 16 academic departments. Harriot College faculty are well recognized on campus, nationally, and internationally for their efforts in research, teaching, and service, as evidenced by publications in leading journals, as well as by the numerous awards and professional appointments they have received. Harriot College departments offer 25 bachelor’s degrees, 20 master’s degrees, and several doctoral degree programs.

The Department of Psychology (psychology.ecu.edu) has 30 full-time faculty members, over 800 undergraduate majors and minors, master’s concentrations in School and Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology, and a doctoral program in Health Psychology. The Health Psychology program is comprised of three separate training concentrations – Clinical Health Psychology, Occupational Health Psychology, and Pediatric School Psychology. The Department also participates in a multidisciplinary BA/BS program in Neuroscience and offers a graduate certificate in Quantitative Methods for the Social and Behavioral Sciences (QMSBS). Psychology faculty routinely receive College and University-level teaching awards and are recognized nationally and internationally for their scholarship and professional leadership. Finally, faculty routinely collaborate across ECU’s two campuses and have established connections with Cardiology, Center for Survey Research, Coastal Studies, Criminal Justice, Dental Medicine, Education, Family Medicine, Management, Neurology, Nursing, Pediatrics, Physiology, and Psychiatry.

Job Duties :

The Department of Psychology at East Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology, beginning August 2022. Candidates in all areas of I/O Psychology are encouraged to apply, with preference given to those with expertise and teaching interests in quantitative methods.

Primary responsibilities include: i) teaching graduate courses in the I/O curriculum and the QMSBS certificate, as well as being prepared to expand course offerings in their area of specialization; ii) teaching undergraduate statistics, I/O psychology, and other courses (e.g., introductory psychology, research methods) to support the core undergraduate curriculum; iii) conducting high quality, programmatic research; iv) seeking external research funding; v) supervising undergraduate and graduate students; vi) develop and participate in research and external funding collaborations within the Department and across ECU; and vii) providing service to the department, institution, and profession.

This position is contingent upon funding.

Minimum Education/Experience :

A PhD in Psychology is required, with an area of discipline in Industrial/Organizational Psychology or related field (e.g., organizational behavior, organizational development). Candidates who have not yet had their degree conferred (i.e., ABD) may be considered. Candidates with PhD conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the probationary rank of Assistant Professor. ABD candidates will also be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to first reappointment. Qualifying degrees must be conferred by an appropriately accredited institution.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to establish a research program in an area of I/O Psychology, the potential to secure external funding, and the capacity for excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Preference will be given to those with teaching interests and strong expertise in quantitative methods. Additionally, expertise in areas such as, but not limited to, employee health, well-being, wellness, diversity, equity, inclusion, and/or belongingness would be beneficial.
