Department Information

The Department of Early Childhood through Secondary Education works to develop reflective educators who positively affect the learning of school aged children. Faculty are committed to enriching education through focused teaching, critical reflection, and scholarship across undergraduate and graduate programs.

Students in our programs seek to improve their knowledge, skills, and competencies related to effective teaching in grades PreK-12. We prepare teacher candidates for initial certification and advanced degrees in their teaching field.

Job Summary

We invite outstanding candidates to apply for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Elementary and/or Middle Grades Teacher Education. The position is a full-time non-tenure track faculty position in the Department of Early Childhood through Secondary Education in the College of Education. Our Elementary Education programs offer opportunities to work with undergraduate and graduate teacher candidates, as well as working closely on research and professional development projects.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Elementary and/or Middle Grades Teacher Education (such as Instructional Strategies, Classroom Management, and Community-Based Education) with the opportunity to develop courses in an area of specialization; supervising teacher candidates in local schools; assisting in the coordination of supervision each semester; developing and maintaining an active scholarly agenda including collaboration with college colleagues; enhancing program, departmental, college, and university goals and objectives via service activities; and assisting in the establishment and maintenance of mutually beneficial partnerships with local schools and districts.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

• Earned Master’s degree in Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, or closely related field

Experience Requirements:

Minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching in a K - 8 school settingAbility and experience mentoring teacher candidates and/or new teachers in a classroom settingExpertise in inclusive/collaborative settingsExperience with technology and online teaching in educational settingsAbility to maintain an active career balanced across the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service

Preferred Qualifications Commitment to or experience with:

Specialist or Doctorate Degree in Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, or closely related fieldState or national certification/licensure in Elementary or Middle Grades EducationTeaching diverse student populations including ELL and at-risk studentsPreparing teacher candidates for teacher certification examsDelivering and developing online instructionWorking collaboratively with program colleagues to expand undergraduate and graduate curricula, using multiple delivery formatsWorking collaboratively across disciplines at the department levelWorking collaboratively with university/community partners

Proposed Salary

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications
