The Fred and Dinah Gretsch School of Music in the College of Arts and Humanities invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands. The home campus for this position will be the Statesboro campus.

Within this setting, The Fred and Dinah Gretsch School of Music offers student-centered degree programs at the bachelor's and master's level. Students are mentored by a faculty of dedicated teacher-scholars, who are nationally and internationally known in their fields of expertise. The athletic bands and concert bands serve as representatives of Georgia Southern University, demonstrating the institution's commitment to excellence through their performances and service.
Position Description. Reporting to the chair of the Gretsch School, the Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands will coordinate the athletic band area within a collegial team environment focused on the success of students. The ideal candidate will offer a model for inspired and skillful teaching and be a creative thinker with an interest and skill in building community through athletic bands and connecting with other constituencies, especially athletics.
The position requires: 1) directing the Southern Pride Marching Band; 2) providing musical leadership including: music selection and/or arranging; field show design; and supervision of Athletic Band Staff; 3) directing other athletic bands, including the Hoop Troop basketball band; 4) conducting the Wind Symphony (the second concert band) and University Band (a non-auditioned, Spring-only band); 5) teaching Marching Band Techniques; 6) collaborating closely with the Director of Bands in the administration of a comprehensive university bands program including: budgeting and scholarships; program development; and planning and executing group travel; 7) recruiting undergraduate and graduate instrumental students; 8) additional duties as assigned.
The position is a fiscal year (12 month) appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications (All Ranks):
Candidates meeting only these requirements are eligible for appointment as a non-tenure track lecturer.
