About the Job

Description of Position

The Principle Office and Administrative Specialist is responsible for assisting the Rochester Bookstore Manager with the daily operations of the bookstore, maintaining specialty merchandise for other bookstore departments, assisting with all aspects of inventory upkeep and providing excellent customer service.

The position reports directly to the Rochester Bookstore Manager.

Responsibilities

50% Provide customer service:
o Assist customers with questions regarding merchandise.
o Handle special orders for requested merchandise.
o Assist with filling, charging and shipping of phone and web orders.
o Assist customers with technology questions and purchases.

25% Assist bookstore manager with operations of the retail floor:
o Receive merchandise that arrives in the store.
o Maintain inventories, vendor returns and inter-store transfers.

20% Operate and maintain POS and inventory management system:
o Assist with opening and closing duties of the bookstore.
o Operate the POS cash register.
o Prepare documentation of sales and cash reconciliation for accounting.
o Troubleshoot software/technical problems.

5% Miscellaneous duties as assigned:
o Assist with marketing promotions.
o Complete Apple sales trainings (ongoing).
o Assist system campus stores as needed.

Essential Functions of the Position

• Assist manager with day-to-day activities in the bookstore.
• Operate and maintain databases, assist with open and closing duties, and prepare daily accounting documentation.
• Provide excellent customer service: cashiering, responding to inquiries and troubleshooting (including communication with the system campus stores).
• Merchandise handling: receiving, merchandising, sales, and transfers.

Anticipated Hourly rate range: $17.03 - $23.50

Work Environment

Work is performed mainly in a retail store and office setting.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED and two years of related office and administrative experience. Training/education may be substituted for some of the years of experience. Computer experience required. Specific knowledge/skills may be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of Point-of-sale computer system.
• Customer service skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of merchandise handling.
