Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of developing and maintaining a successful program. The specific tasks are varied tasks and listed below. Each requires a high level of autonomy over specific program areas and is essential to the success of the team.

Database, Training and Preparation – 40%

• Coordinate statistical database and video analysis.
• Assist with skill and system training as assigned by the Head Coach.
• Assist with match preparation/ scouting.

Program Planning – 30%

• Coordinate camps – Work with Camp director on marketing, budgeting, employment, planning.
• Coordinate academic mentoring – academic progress, eligibility, freshman transition.
• Coordinate team travel including planning, purchasing, and managing itineraries.
• Assist with team planning and goal development.

Recruiting and Coordinating – 20%

• Assist with recruiting – Assist in identifying, evaluating, and recruiting prospective student athletes, coordinate campus visits.
• Assist with prospect communication strategies.
• Assist with program promotion/ coordinating with current and potential benefactors/alumni.

NCAA Knowledge and University Representation – 5%

• Assist in developing and maintaining a successful image and profile for the Northern Arizona Women's Volleyball program.
• A working knowledge of university, Big Sky Conference, and NCAA rules is required, and the successful candidate will need to pass the NCAA recruiting test.

Other duties as assigned – 5%

• Secondary responsibilities include any other duties assigned by the head coach.

Minimum Qualifications

• The successful applicant must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited university.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree.
• Must have at least two years of collegiate volleyball coaching experience.
• Division I volleyball playing experience preferred.
• A coaching philosophy compatible with the head volleyball coach.
• A working knowledge of basic computer skills including use of computer databases and recruiting software, and exceptional written and oral communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Skill in relating to and motivating student-athletes.
• Ability to promote the program to a wide range of groups.
• Ability to work with groups from diverse cultural background.
• All coaches have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, Big Sky Conference and NAU with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations as mandated by NCAA.
• Bylaw 10.1. Satisfactory rules knowledge and rules compliance are conditions of employment. This position, in particular, will fully participate and cooperate in compliance-related activities and procedures.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting.

The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

Salary

Salary range is $31,320 to $39,150. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. Service Professionals are hired on a contract basis, renewable each 6 months according to terms of the Conditions of Professional Service.

Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of employment. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of employment.
