JOB DESCRIPTION: Tompkins Cortland Community College seeks a dynamic and engaging faculty member to take on a grant funded tenure track position to help lead the growth and development of several engineering tracks in the Applied Science and Technology (AST) A.A.S. program, specifically in the areas of advanced manufacturing and civil engineering. The College has received a SUNY workforce development grant to build tracks and micro-credentials in the Applied Science and Technology program to meet local workforce demands in advanced manufacturing and civil engineering. This faculty position will be funded for three years by this grant, and then will convert into a traditional full time faculty line at the College.

This position will serve as Program Coordinator and Teaching Faculty with a reduced teaching load. Teaching assignments may involve teaching face-to-face, remote, day, evening, online, hybrid, and HyFlex courses, and will include holding regular office hours.

As Program Coordinator, the position will be expected to:

  • Work closely with relevant area workforce partners in Advanced Manufacturing and Civil Engineering.
  • Utilize academic training and professional experience to develop the Advanced Manufacturing track, and micro-credentials within the AST program.
  • For the Civil Engineering track, work with expert consultants, adjunct faculty, and local partners to develop micro-credentials or tracks within the AST program.
  • Market programs, recruit students with the help of the College admissions and marketing teams and develop close ties with local partners.
  • Seek additional grant funding to sustain program growth.
  • Work with the office of workforce development at the College to ensure high placement rates for students of the program.

As a teaching faculty, this position will:

  • Initially teach 15 credits a year in the Applied Science and Technology program with a focus on student success, retention, and applied learning experiences.
  • Serve as advisor to the students in the AST program.
  • Be involved in assessing student learning and refining existing curriculum.
  • Create and maintain an active Advisory Committee to help regularly assess the relevance of the curriculum to workforce needs.
  • After the first three years, this position will shift to a more traditional teaching faculty position at the College. This will involve teaching 30 credits a year while maintaining advising, assessment, committee work, and continuing co-ordination of internships, and placements. However, some limited course/credit release may still be available after the grant ends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in related field and minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or aligned field. A demonstrated understanding of current needs in the fields of advanced manufacturing.

Teaching and grant writing experience preferred. Established relationships with employers or academic institutions in the fields of advanced manufacturing. EXPECTED HIRING SALARY RANGE:  $47,267 - $59,085 - Salary subject to change pending outcome of Faculty Association negotiations. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
