Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world.

Requirements

Guided by Georgetown's Catholic and Jesuit tradition, with its abiding commitment to interreligious collaboration, Campus Ministry equips students to lead lives of deeper meaning, belonging, and purpose.

The Residential Ministry Program Director supports this mission by managing and leading a multi-faith team of volunteer residential chaplains in the undergraduate residence halls and apartment/townhouse communities. In the spirit of the Jesuit tradition of cura personalis (Latin phrase that translates as "care for the entire person"), the Director supports and guides the work of residential chaplains in providing hospitality, pastoral support and opportunities for reflection for students of all religious and spiritual identities. Residential Ministry is a critical part of the university Safety Net case management system, and the Director works to ensure strong communication and coordination with colleagues in Campus Ministry, Residential Living and other key offices within Student Affairs. The Director manages the administrative and operational needs for Residential Ministry.

The Residential Ministry Program Director also serves as a residential chaplain and is required to live in a university residence. Evening and weekend hours are frequently required, as is serving in an after-hours on-call rotation.

Work Interactions

The Residential Ministry Program Director is a member of the Office of Campus Ministry and works in collaboration with other members. The Associate Director supervises 25-30 volunteer residential chaplains in consultation with colleagues in Campus Ministry, the Office of Student Outreach and Support, Residential Education, and the Jesuit Community rector.

Qualifications
  • Education: Master of Divinity or equivalent combination of graduate theological, ministerial and counseling education, training, and supervised ministry experience is required.
  • Experience: Candidates should have at least four years' relevant experience in ministerial work and management; strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; and attention to detail.
  • Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification: Clinical Pastoral Education, or similar supervised ministry training is required. The candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, email and basic web content management.
  • Other Skills: A strong understanding of both ministry and undergraduate residential environments, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues of other religious traditions are required. Must be self-directed and able to manage projects, set priorities, and navigate complex situations, both pastoral and managerial.
  • Will require evening and weekend hours.

The Residential Ministry Program Director upholds the values and ideals of Georgetown University as a Catholic, Jesuit University and must be committed to promoting Georgetown's Catholic identity and Jesuit mission. Because the Program Director serves as a residential chaplain, they must be a member in good standing in their religious tradition.
