Primary Responsibility

  • Full time core MFT graduate faculty responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Teaching, Supervision & Advising
      • Teaching 24 units per year in the MFT day and evening masters program.
      • Supervision of MFT interns (as part of teaching load).
      • Consult with faculty for ongoing curriculum improvements
      • Advise students as needed
      • Summer teaching available
    • Practice and Service:
      • Expectation to maintain clinical activity doing therapy, supervision and / or consultation
      • Serve the program, department, college, and / or university
      • Serve the profession locally, statewide, regionally or nationally and / or
      • Serve the community locally, statewide, regionally or nationally
    • Research:
      • Maintain a program of research or sufficient scholarly activity
      • Present research and / or practice based information at conferences, lectureships, and /or other outlets.
    • Other duties:
      • Contribute to weekly program meeting with faculty and staff
      • Assist with accreditation process
      • Help develop supervision aspects of curriculum
      • Help align academic curriculum with clinical curriculum
      • Other duties as assigned


  • Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy (from COAMFTE accredited program preferred) or closely related field


The ideal candidate will have experience in the practice of Marriage and Family Therapy, experience doing supervision of marriage and family therapists, and experience in higher ed teaching marriage and family therapy or family science.


  • AAMFT Approved Supervisor or supervisor candidate (Must become AAMFT Approved Supervisor).
  • Clinical fellow or Pre-Clinical Fellow of AAMFT (must become AAMFT Clinical Fellow)
  • Licensed as LMFT or license eligible in Tennessee (must become fully licensed).

  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in course design.
