The Partnered Evidence-Based Policy Resource Center (PEPReC) provides timely, rigorous data analysis to support the development of high-priority policy, planning, and management initiatives within the Veterans Health Administration (VA). It also coordinates and supports the design and implementation of randomized program evaluations with strong potential to improve the quality and efficiency of VA healthcare.

We are looking for a full time (40 hours/week) Research Scientist to lead and contribute to evaluations of impacts of VA policy and practice changes on access to and efficiency of VA health care. The Research Scientist will lead the design of analyses and contribute to interpreting results, preparing manuscripts and briefs, and disseminating findings to VA stakeholders. This position is supported by a federal contract to Boston University School of Public Health (PI: Steven Pizer, PhD); there is a possibility for annual renewal based on funding and performance. The Research Scientist will have the opportunity to develop their own papers and grants relevant to health care for vulnerable populations and be encouraged to engage in professional development. They will also have the opportunity to engage in the development of other quantitative program evaluations with strong potential to improve the quality and efficiency of VA benefits.

Applicants should be detail oriented, have training in observational data analysis and program evaluation, possess strong programming skills, and be interested in a research career focused on public sector health programs. A PhD in health economics, health policy, or a related field is required.

Required Skills
  • Excellent programming skills; experience with SQL preferred
  • A history of first-authored scientific publications is desirable
  • Self-motivated and committed to research relevant to vulnerable populations
  • High level of professionalism and attention to detail
  • Doctoral degree in health economics, health policy, or related field
  • Experience with program evaluation and econometric techniques
  • Familiarity with US health policy
  • Ability to manage time well
