Position & Qualifications

The Department of Economics and Business strives to prepare students for leadership positions in a global society and offers a major in economics and tracks in general business, international business, finance, and a new entrepreneurship track, along with business and international business minors, and a new minor in entrepreneurship. This position carries a teaching load of three undergraduate courses per semester. Other duties include maintaining scholarly activity in the form of publications and presentations; developing curriculum; advising, mentoring, and recruiting students; participating in department and university service; and engaging with the vibrant local Roanoke Valley business community.

The successful candidate will have a strong record of innovative, student-centered teaching at the undergraduate level, evidence of scholarly accomplishment, demonstrated leadership in business curriculum development, and a strong commitment to the liberal arts and women’s education. They will be able to teach introduction to business, international business, and business law and ethics, in addition to other required and elective courses in business, such as organizational behavior, marketing, e-commerce, and entrepreneurship. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in business, business economics, marketing, or organizational behavior or a D.B.A.

Position & Qualifications

Teaching responsibilities encompass undergraduate and graduate courses in dance, including contemporary dance and/or ballet technique. Applicants must offer expertise in at least three areas of undergraduate and graduate core curriculum: undergraduate/graduate seminar, dance history, contemporary creative practices/processes, performance studies, dance and the environment, or dance technology/dance for the camera. Candidates must also be able to discuss dance as a corporeal knowledge, cultural language, imaginative expression, and performance art.

The position will serve as coordinator for the undergraduate program and assistant director for the MFA in dance program (position includes MFA Dance summer engagement at Hollins). The position will also maintain and/or cultivate relationships with professional associations and area schools/teachers to facilitate visibility and recruitment, and will maintain a visible profile and active program of scholarly and/or creative activity.

Applicants must have a MFA, MA, or PhD in dance or a relevant field with a performance background and teaching experience in higher education or a substantial professional performing career. Experience in writing and a readiness to participate in all administrative, strategic, and programmatic activities of the department are essential.
