The Division of Medical Oncology has an opening for a full-time Instructor Professional Research Assistant within a lung cancer research laboratory at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.

 

Professional Field: Cell Biology, Cancer, Molecular Biology

 

Examples of Work Performed:   Some examples of PRA job duties could include the following:

  • Preparation of human and animal tissues, cells, and cell lines with sterile technique including propagation, freezing and maintenance of cell lines.
  • Isolation of human or murine immune cells for cell culture experiments
  • Molecular biology techniques including western blot analysis, PCR
  • Immune assays including: performing and analyzing flow cytometry experiments, magnetic-activated cell sorting (MACS), ELISA/cytokine measurement, and T cell proliferation assays.
  • Generating and treating mouse cancer models
  • Training and supervision of laboratory personnel in experimental techniques.
 

Duties and Responsibilities: This position is a research technician position.  Primary duties may include the following:

Independently or in collaboration with the PI, Erin Schenk, MD, PhD, to set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals. Contribute to the planning, design and modification of studies and experiments in support of laboratory goals. Maintain an accurate, thorough recording of experimental methods and results. Collect and enter data and perform initial data analysis. Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies. Order laboratory supplies and record each expenditure.

 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at: $36,000 - $45,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in appropriate science field (biology, chemistry, or related health science).
  • 1 year of experience in research laboratory setting
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in appropriate scientific field (biology, chemistry, or related health sciences)
  • Research lab experience preferred, in an immunology research lab is helpful
  • Experience with flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, RT-PCR and Western blots.
  • Experience with mouse models of cancer
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge and basic understanding of biology, should be willing to learn a variety of lab techniques.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient level with MS Office software
  • Must be team-oriented, flexible, willing to ask questions to communicate and collaborate within the research lab environment.
  • Ability to take direction and be self-motivated to coordinate various lab projects and meet deadlines.
  • Show daily and continued interest to demonstrate successful planning and management skills in all assigned behavioral research and/or research projects working with lab team members effectively.
  • Must feel comfortable to work independently on lab projects, internet research related to lab projects and develop and understand new lab techniques.
