Position Title: Assistant Director of Student Financial Services for GAE

 

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director will assist in providing leadership and supervision in the administration of federal, state and institutional student aid programs for a diverse population of adult undergraduate and graduate students. The Assistant Director will manage and maintain prospective and currently enrolled students’ financial aid files, determine eligibility requirements for student aid programs, assist with the completion of the application forms, package financial aid, and meet with prospective students as they enroll each semester. Expectations for this position include providing professional and courteous communications with students and families, maintaining detailed and accurate records, reconciling federal, state and institutional funds to ensure compliance with all regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the awarding of financial aid, while providing professional assistance to students enrolled in the school of graduate and adult education by advising and assisting with financial planning and continuing to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and procedures.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Counsel students and families in obtaining federal, state and private funding, and establish whether students meet required criteria for the funding
  • Educate students on budgeting, debt management, and alternative ways to manage expenses associated with a college education
  • Attend on campus recruitment events, financial aid presentations, and open houses
  • Position requires some work nights, weekend, extended work hours, and travel to off-site locations
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and professional organizations on the regional, state, and national levels including:   PHEAA, PASFAA, NASFAA, PowerFaids, etc
  • Maintain active outreach tasks to inform potential students of the financial aid process, FAFSA follow up and ensure completion of financial aid documents prior to registration.

    Additional Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of packaging financial aid for adult, graduate and doctoral students, including verification, review of Pell LEU, and aggregate loan limits
  • Responsible for awarding, reviewing, and updating discount awards and fixed price tuition majors for all SGAE students.
  • Responsible for counseling students wishing to add/drop/withdraw from coursework in the first semester as well as processing withdrawal calculations, including R2T4 processing, aid adjustments, and student notification.
  • Act as liaison to the Philadelphia and Schuylkill campuses
  • Extended hours and occasional evening and/or weekend work and travel are required.

    Qualifications/Education:

  • Bachelor Degree required
  • Two to three years of progressive financial aid experience
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations as well as experience in awarding and processing institutional aid
  • Must provide exceptional customer service, specifically related to the mission of the university
  • Experience with PowerFaids, Power Campus, NSLDS, COD, EdConnect preferred
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and customer service skills across varied audiences such as students, families, staff, alumni, and the community
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with time-sensitive deadlines, working as part of a team as well as independently with little supervision, and additional hours as needed
  • Ability to diffuse difficult or emotional situations with students and/or families
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel and Access

    Physical Requirements:

  • Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job. 
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Occasional weekend work and travel to other campuses is required
