About this position

This position requires supervision of students during after school tutoring sessions at the Roberts Academy, a transitional elementary school for students with dyslexia located at the Florida Southern College campus. Tutors work one on one and in small groups to build skills in reading and language arts using Orton Gillingham strategies for learning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide individual tutoring instruction in reading using approved Roberts Academy materials.
2. Work one on one with students in grades 1-6.
3. Plan weekly tutoring instruction appropriate for the age and ability of the student.
4. Collaborate with other Roberts Academy faculty and staff.
5. Explore initiatives to encourage literacy.
6. Communicate with parents and other stakeholders related to the students.

Each tutoring session with a student is 45-60 minutes. Tutors are scheduled after typical school hours from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

About our ideal candidate

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. Earned baccalaureate degree in Elementary Education, Reading or related field.
2. Fingerprinting clearance and background check including VECHS approval.
3. 3-5 years of experience working with grades 1-6 students.
4. Desire to work with students in a learning environment.
5. Patient and enthusiastic about making a difference in student progress.
6. Excellent communication skills will parents and professional demeanor.
