Job Description:

COURSE TITLE: SOC 129: Race and Ethnic Relations in the U.S.

DEPARTMENT: Social and Historical Studies

Department Description:

A holistic approach to race and ethnic relations in the U.S., emphasizing macro-sociological issues of race and ethnic group assimilation and discrimination. Examines the creation and maintenance of institutional racism and its relationship to other forms of social inequality, such as gender and class. Special attention is given to the federal system of government and other major societal institutions as they influence processes of elite and subordinate group formation and maintenance in American life.

SOC 129: Race and Ethnic Relations in the U.S. (3 Credits)

Meets the following Gen Ed requirements: Historical Perspectives, Multicultural Perspectives


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications :

PhD in Sociology, or ABD + teaching experience. The successful candidate will have substantial teaching experience and a proven track record of working with undergraduate students in a liberal arts college setting.

Compensation:

For faculty new to Mills, compensation is $6,500 per course with a terminal degree and $6,000 per course without a terminal degree. Adjunct compensation is governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement and increases with seniority at Mills College.

This is an exempt, part-time position. The compensation includes state-mandated benefits including Social Security, State Disability Insurance, Workers' Compensation Insurance, Unemployment Insurance and Sick Day accrual. Employees also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts.
