Job Summary:

  • Eastern Washington University is currently seeking a team-orientated individual, with excellent customer service skills for a Retail Clerk Lead. This position will lead a convenience store staff in ordering, receiving, sales, inventory, clerical work, cash funds and customer service functions for a retail and or service operation.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires a valid food handler’s permit and a driver’s license. This position requires the ability to work late nights and weekends. The successful candidate must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment

  • All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.

  • This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees’ Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

1. WA State Valid Drivers License.
2. WA State Valid Food Handler’s permit.
3. High school diploma or GED.
4. One year of experience in retail selling, cash register operation, general clerical work and/or financial record keeping
5. Ability to acquire Serve Safe Certification within one first year of employment.
6. Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:

P1. One year of experience in the grocery retail field
P2. Two or more years of experience in the grocery retail field.
P3. One or more years experience in college and university food service
P4. Two or more years of customer service experience
P5. Proficiency using Microsoft Office (including: Word, Excel, and Outlook) and ability to learn new new software programs quickly.
P6. Experience with Point of Sales System, cash handling and deposits.
P7. One or more years of experience using and electronic inventory management system.
P8. One or more years of experience performing inventories in a large scale business.
P9. One or more years experience leading or supervising 10-15 employees at one time, including scheduling, directing and training.
