Job Description:

Processing Materials

  • Checks items in Alma, the library catalog, to confirm title and check for duplicates.
  • Identifies and separates materials by collection code, and duplicates barcodes as needed.
  • Sorts materials by size and places into appropriate trays.
  • Counts and logs number of items in tray onto tray label.
  • Stamps customer code on tray label and creates a batch work order (BWO) sheet.
  • Vacuums and dusts all items in trays and rechecks all trays for materials size accuracy.

Inventory Control

  • Uses CaiaSoft software to create a Batch Work Order number (BWO).
  • Uses a barcode scanner to “Accession” or ingest the tray ID and all item barcodes associated with the tray ID.
  • Verifies items by checking software count with manual item count. When all trays are accessioned and verified, then they are ready to go to Tray to Shelf.

Tray to Shelf

  • Places each tray on the appropriate collection code and tray size shelf.
  • Locates and places the tray(s) on the proper shelf, using an aerial lift as needed.
  • Scans the shelf barcode using a hand-held scanner, inserts the tray positions, scans the tray ID.
  • Uploads data into CaiaSoft.

Circulation

  • Retrieves materials requested by patrons and identifies materials to circulate in database.
  • Scans item for electronic delivery, or prepares physical item for shipping.
  • Delivers books to campus when needed using the Library van.
  • Pulls materials for internal staff use.
  • Checks in materials in the database and returns materials to home tray.
  • Materials requiring repair or other attention are sent to specialty units.

Unit Support

  • Folds trays, creates tray and shelf labels, applies shelf and human readable labels to shelves.
  • Adjusts shelves, assists with inventory projects and helps maintain facility.
  • Assists in unloading trucks and using forklift or pallet jacks to store shipments.
  • Operates the Libraries van to move materials from one facility to another.

Other Duties

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be asked to assist another unit or fill in for another team member.
  • Serves on committees as appointed and participates in staff development opportunities.

Expected Salary:

$15.45; Actual salary will reflect selected professional’s experience and credentials.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of library or related clerical/customer service experience; or a bachelor’s degree.

A valid FL driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Warehouse experience: inventory control, use of warehouse ladders, aerial lift platforms, pallet jack, and/or forklift
  • Computer literacy/technological skills and experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to push or pull 250lb carts and lift up to 75lbs
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Ability to work collaboratively to accomplish goals
  • Detail oriented and well organized
  • Flexibility, and ability to adapt and work in a rapidly changing academic environment
  • Prior library experience
  • Use of library management software
