The Department of Human Development & School Services at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) College of Education and P-16 Integration invites applicants for a non-tenure track position in the School Psychology Program to begin Fall 2022. The Department of Human Development & School Services (HD&SS) is actively engaged in collaborating with both the university and Rio Grande Valley communities to move the university forward. We have a graduate program in school psychology that leads to students becoming eligible for the credential of licensed specialist in school psychology (LSSP) in Texas. We offer opportunities for students to master a variety of assessments including personality, cognitive, achievement and to provide counseling and behavior therapy to children from diverse sociocultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction in the School Psychology Program, especially in the field-experience components, as well as mentoring students and serving the college, university and local community. Faculty may be assigned to teach at either the Edinburg or Brownsville campus, both, or online. UTRGV faculty are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV's guiding principles (http://www.utrgv.edu/en-us/about-utrgv/history/transition-plan/guiding-principles/).
Research/Scholarly Work: Although as an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Human Development and School Services is not required, research and scholarly work is highly encouraged.
Service: Participate actively as a member of the university community by serving as on administrative committees, search committees, in university governance activities, and student advising. The College of Education and P-16 Integration is a catalyst for educational success for individuals, families, communities, the region, and our society at large. The College of Education and P-16 Integration offers teacher preparation at the undergraduate level, master's programs in educational leadership; teacher leadership; educational technology; curriculum and instruction; school psychology; bilingual education, early childhood, reading and literacy; and counseling. We also offer Ed.D.s in educational leadership and curriculum and instruction with several specialization areas. The College of Education and P-16 Integration is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and is pursuing accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred candidates will have an earned PH.D from an accredited institution in School Psychology or closely related field or have completed all required course work pending only dissertation defense before start date.
Teaching: Valid licensure from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a licensed specialist in school psychology (LSSP) or other equivalent state licensure or certification is required to provide expert instruction and internship supervision in the evaluation of children with disabilities according to federal and state laws as applied to public schools in Texas. Also required is recent experience working within a public school district as an LSSP.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a strong background and at least three years working experience as an LSSP with school districts that implement district and campus-wide positive behavior support programs designed using the science of data analysis decision-making. Further, the candidate will demonstrate the ability to design and implement course content using positive behavior support.

Preferred Qualification:
The candidate should have the ability to adapt to the dynamic world of online/distance education and to utilize technologies that maximize student outcomes in a collaborative manner. Also preferred are experience with positive behavior support systems, supervising practicum students and interns, as well as being familiar with the NASP Practice Model.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days inlength.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
