Florida Atlantic University's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic, Fort Pierce, FL.

Summary of Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintains and repairs physical structures, systems or equipment. Including but not limited to temperature control systems, greenhouse ventilation, and propane heaters for the buildings.
  • Operates equipment and machinery such as forklift and backhoe. Assists with plumbing, light construction, retrofits, and demolition.
  • Assists with design or construction of systems, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, irrigation and plumbing.
  • Performs general facilities maintenance and keeps records of preventive maintenance activities per schedule.
  • Performs routine activities including, but not limited to changing filters, changing light bulbs, painting, moving furniture and equipment.
  • Performs in emergency situations, (e.g., hurricane preparations and emergency call-in).

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and four years appropriate experience. Vocational/technical training may substitute for experience.

Appropriate experience must include: HVAC, chillers, greenhouse ventilation and propane heaters for buildings.

Ability to be on-call as scheduled and work outside of regular hours as needed.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to work outside, in extreme heat, in covered areas or outside with no protection from the elements.

Must have a valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain within two weeks from date of hire.

Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and vendors.

$15.00 per hour
