Job Description

Under the direction of the Social Work Department Field Education Director, coordinates Social Work Field Education to include planning, implementation, and evaluation of the major functions in the field internship programs. Demonstrates decision-making authority, judgement and independence regarding the organization of Field Education, and originates new concepts or approaches to increase efficiency and service to students and the community. Ensures the implementation of policies and practices, and assists in conducting oversight, review, and analysis of the effectiveness and compliance of the program(s). Makes independent decisions regarding planning, organizing, and scheduling work. Performs work that requires knowledge of administrative/office management practices. Resolves moderately complex administrative problems, independently or with others. This is a 40-hour a week staff position within the Field Education Unit of the Department of Social Work.

Essential Position Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development of program content; monitors program metrics and performance; maintains operation of the program.
  • Contributes to the development of program policies and standards.
  • Acts as a liaison for program to potential or current volunteers, members, participants, external stakeholders or constituents, and/or community partners.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships and connections with community stakeholders and organizations.
  • Ensures program compliance with all applicable university, state, federal, or other laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Distributes, collects, and processes applications, forms, and documents related to the program(s).
  • Manage and implement all SWEAP instruments for field placements
  • Manage all NAU Affiliation Agreements, including new and renewals. Keep updated database.
  • Maintains records of program participants and program data, which may include inputting or updating data in a database.
  • Manage all Field Placement Directories and all student field placement files.
  • Develop and implement field related evaluations.
  • Assist in Field Placement Orientation for both in-person and on-line programs
  • Assist in professional development workshops for students facilitated by Field Faculty.
  • Meet one on one with BSW and MSW students to prepare for field education through in person or via Zoom interviews and review field applications.
  • Managing databases of eligible field students, track progress through the placement process, and secure placement for students in agency internships.
  • Prepare field education placement process by crafting information about field education, facilitating information sessions, and scheduling interviews with students.
  • Acts as a main point of contact for program participants and other program stakeholders or constituents, including telephone and email communications; answers questions regarding the program; provides conflict resolution, if needed.
  • Recruits partners for participation in the program(s).
  • Assist in developing partnerships with community organizations, both inside and outside of Arizona, introduce Social Work Field Program, schedule interview with agency, process affiliation paperwork.
  • Delivers presentations to communicate information about the program(s) to multiple constituents.
  • Advises volunteers, members, participants, external stakeholders or constituents, and/or community partners on program guidelines and details.
  • Contact existing partner agencies to identifying internship opportunities each semester and securing placements for student interns.
  • Serve as the role of BSW Field Supervisor when appropriate.
  • Travel to local agencies may be required.
  • Assist with Department of Social Work events and special projects.
  • May supervise or oversee student or temporary employees.
  • Researches, summarizes, and analyzes information regarding program participation; calculates statistics and compiles data to prepare special and/or recurring reports.
  • May be responsible for coordination of events, service projects, and/or recognition in relation to program(s).
  • May schedule and participate in meetings or committees on behalf of the program(s).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, AND
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience, OR
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work
  • Two years post BSW practice
  • Program coordination experience
  • Familiarity with regional community organization

  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, guidelines, and procedures related to program area.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and account reconciliation principles.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check.

Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

Salary

Salary range begins at $41,421. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.


FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.


Benefits

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
