HR MANAGER - Tickle College of Engineering

Regular, Full-time, Marlet Range 12

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, seeks applications and nominations for a full time HR Manager for the Tickle College of Engineering. Reporting to the Executive Director of Finance & Administration, the HR Manager serves as the chief human resource officer for the Tickle College of Engineering (TCE).  Provides leadership in all areas of human resources functions including employee relations, recruitment, compensation, benefits and retirement, and workers compensation. Develops strategic direction and goals, guides implementation, and develops innovative approaches to HR services for TCE.



Qualifications
Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, HR, Psychology, or comparable area of concentration plus five years of demonstrated progressive experience in an office environment to include general HR, conflict management, employee relations, recruitment, and/or training; or high school diploma plus eight years of demonstrated progressive experience in an office environment to include general HR, conflict management, employee relations, recruitment, and/or training.

  • Minimum of three years' supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to succeed as a leader in a high-volume, customer service setting.
  • Must have demonstrated experience consulting and advising employees, supervisors, and leaders.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation expertise
  • Knowledge of management philosophies and techniques.
  • Knowledge of HR and professional content areas and practices including applicable federal and state regulations/laws affecting the employee/employer relationship.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills including demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a high-performance team.
  • Well-developed conflict resolution skills including the ability to diffuse potentially disruptive situations before they escalate.
  • Ability to interpret and explain policies, ability to speak in public settings, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Skills necessary to create training programs or presentations on a variety of topics and present to a variety of audiences. 
  • Skills necessary to research complex issues, analyze information, present data, and make effective recommendations.
  • Exceptional customer services skills.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CCP or other related certification
  • 6-10 years of experience in HR management including time served as a leader in a complex organization
  • Experience in a higher education HR department
