1. Position Description

Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Interior Design and Director of Environmental & Interior Design Program

Department: School of Humanities, Arts, & Design

Contract: 10 Month Faculty Appointment (30 workload credits per academic year)

Non-Tenure Track

Exempt/Full Time

2. Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Dean of the School of Humanities, Arts, & Design.

3. Position Summary

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Environmental and Interior Design (“EID”) and serve as Director of the Environmental and Interior Design program at Chaminade University of Honolulu. As a faculty member, the Assistant/Associate Professor is expected to actively participate in curriculum development and assessment, accreditation, and student related activities, perform all duties professionally and ethically, and support the policies and mission of the University. As the Director, the successful candidate is responsible for leading the EID program, recruitment of students, budget management, and any other duties needed to ensure success of the program.

4. Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching Duties (50%)

● Teach the required workload credits per semester in the undergraduate programs.

● Actively participate in division and university related activities and committees, the accreditation process, curriculum development, and scholarship (teaching, grant writing, research, publishing, and community service).

● Provide advising to students.

● Develop a professional development plan and demonstrate a trajectory that promotes scholarship, community service, and life‐long learning.

Director Duties and Responsibilities (45%)

● EID Program Coordination

● Develop. monitor and/or revise courses, course syllabi for new and existing EID program pathways

● Provide support to full-time and part-time faculty who teach EID courses

● Develop and support a collaborative and inclusive EID culture; organize academic and professional events for EID students

● Monitor and maintain the academic and professional rigor of the EID program:

● Assist in the recruiting of EID program faculty {adjunct, full time, temporary, etc.);

● Develop student recruitment plan to meet recruitment goals;

● Meet recruitment goals as determined by the Dean of the School of Humanities, Arts, and Design.

● Participate in academic advising for EID students

● Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws/regulations and

university policies;

● Complete administrative tasks to ensure the continued success of the EID program including but not limited to EID Program Assessment and CIDA Accreditation--

○ Ensure that the program successfully meets or exceeds all requirements for CIDA and WSCUC requirements for accreditation.

○ Develop systems for gathering, maintaining. and disseminating course and program assessment data

○ Lead the preparation and writing of all Chaminade and WSCUC reports related to the EID program

○ Lead any requested accreditation related site visits or Chaminade program reviews for the EID programs

Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the division (5%)

6. Qualifications

Minimum Education

● Terminal Degree in Interior Design, Architecture and Design, Interior Architecture, Sustainable Design, Environmental Design, or a closely related field.

Minimum Experience

● At least five years experience teaching in a university or college setting

● Excellent record of teaching in a variety of formats, including in-person, online, and hybrid modalities

● Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and publication

● Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

● Established design portfolio, excellent teaching skills, and a successful research agenda

● Interior Design program administrative experience

● Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

● Ph.D. or Doctorate in Interior Design, Architecture, or Related field

● Experience developing online and hybrid Interior Design courses and curriculum

● Experience in Interior Design research, studio teaching, and/or professional practice

● Experience teaching and working with Hawai‘i and Pacific Island communities

● Experience with professional program accreditation (CIDA)

● NCIDQ certification or willingness to sit for the exam

● Membership in at least one of the following organizations: IDEC, IIDA, or ASID.

7. Physical Requirements

Must be able to traverse the campus, stoop, bend, climb stairs, lift approximately 20 lbs. and have finger dexterity.
