Coordinator of Recruitment & Diversity Initiatives, Academic & Student Affairs

The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants for a new Coordinator of Recruitment & Diversity Initiatives position located within Academic & Student Affairs.  The primary purpose of this position is to partner with the Assistant Dean for Students, the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, and the UTCVM Diversity Committee to create, administer, and assess progressive recruitment, admissions, and wellness initiatives for veterinary medical students. The position will also help support other student needs, activities, and events hosted by the Office of Academic Affairs.

Typical Responsibilities:

Provides support to the Assistant Dean, Associate Dean, and Admissions Committee in revising and implementing the recruitment and admissions process. Manages applicant data, files, and ranking.  Makes recruitment contacts and plans and participates in recruitment activities.

Monitors and tracks progress toward college diversity plan and coordinates diversity plan programming, group support services, training, and assessments. Tracks participation and outcomes.

Triages student and student organization requests, issues, and daily needs. Provides immediate student support as needed and within capacity.

Engages in the curriculum as applicable to promote understanding of diverse populations, communication skills, conflict management, and wellness for veterinary students. Facilitates training in these areas.

Supports the Assistant Dean and the Scholarship Committee in the distribution and recognition of scholarship recipients, especially access and diversity scholarships.

Contributes to grant development and writing. Helps with student events, especially welcoming events and leadership development.



Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Humanities, Education, or related field with at least 1 year of experience in program or event coordination, program management, or work in a higher educational setting.  Background in diversity work and evidence of engagement in initiatives to support diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Counseling experience and wellness, teaching, or facilitating experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed:

Knowledge: scope of health professions education; key diversity/equity and inclusion issues and challenges in health professions and beyond

Skills: excellent communication and listening skills; fluency in Microsoft Office, email, Excel and Powerpoint; good writing skills; literature review and independent general research and problem-solving skills

Attributes: initiative, creativity, ability to work independently and as part of a team

Counseling skills, Event management skills, Program development and evaluation skills, and Conflict management abilities are preferred.
