Overall Description of Responsibility or Nature of Work

The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for directing and performing research focused on proteomic characterization of animal venoms, tissue proteomes, and protease degradomes.

We seek a bright, energetic, motivated individual to contribute to our research program focused on venoms, interactions with blood and tissue components using state-of the-art mass spectrometry techniques. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail oriented, have a strong aptitude for learning new areas of research, and be adept at managing multiple projects in parallel. The candidate’s primary responsibility will be to generate and analyze omics data sets from diverse research settings and disseminate results in an understandable format as part of a highly productive research team. Good organizational, computational skills and the ability to work independently, as well as part of a research team are necessary.

The fellow will have the opportunity to interact with a variety of researchers, both locally and nationally, and will support proteomics and informatics analysis for several funded projects aimed at improving patient outcomes. Opportunities to develop new visualization tools that enable interactive analysis of MS omic data sets are available. In addition, the fellow will develop and help teach curricula (e.g., graduate level classes and short courses) that promote the use of cutting-edge technologies on campus. Ideal candidates have a Ph.D. in biological, chemical or computer sciences, have bioinformatics experience, and wish to expand their training in multiple disciplines. The position will be for two years with the possibility to extend the fellowship for an additional year. Stipends will be based on the NIH recommended pay scale.

Stipend Range based on NIH pay scale: $53,760-$65,292

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

    PhD degree in biological sciences, computational disciplines, or a related field within the last three yearsApplicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire
Preferred Qualificiations:

 

    Record of productivity supported by peer-reviewed publications in internationally recognized English language journalsWorking knowledge of mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and proteomics
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Successful candidate is expected to be a curious, organized, and highly motivated individual, with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.Post-doctoral fellows are expected to direct independent projects, assist in mentoring junior lab members, and apply for independent fellowship funding.
