Job Description:

As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks a Senior Instructional Designer for STEHM. The Senior Instructional Designer will promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by applying knowledge of learning theory, instructional and curriculum design, and educational technologies specific to the technical needs of STEHM fields to assist faculty and departments in the design and development of engaging, rigorous, and academically sound programs and courses which meet desired learning outcomes. The Senior Instructional Designer provides individual consultations and support to STEHM faculty, as well as ongoing development efforts through design and delivery of workshops and other forms of faculty development. This position also promotes the use of data and research to guide course redesign, measure the effectiveness of learning interventions, and support other efforts of the Center to incorporate evidence-based practices in all aspects of our work. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
  • Collaborates closely with deans, program administrators and instructors to design and develop quality curriculums, content, modules, courses, and programs.
  • Mentors instructors through the design, development, and facilitation of courses.
  • Consults with individual instructors regarding their courses.
  • Facilitates various training programs and workshops for faculty.
  • Collaborates with academic program coordinates to address specific teaching and learning ideas and concerns in their online program offerings.
  • Ensures alignment of learning outcomes with content, activities, and assessment in courses.
  • Establishes consistent quality standards, look and feel, template design, and user experience across programs and courses.
  • Applies project management, communication, and problem-solving skills in the design of all courses to meet aggressive deadlines.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Adult Education, or related subject area. Doctorate degree is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in Higher Education designing and developing online courses where a majority of the time has been working with technical or health related institution.
  • Demonstrated application of learning, motivation, and instructional theories and practices in the design of learning
  • Experience assessing course quality using an established rubric (e.g. QualityMatters, OLC, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in developing engaging and interactive content and courses in Canvas or other LMS
  • Experience and knowledge in creating learning projects through programs such as Photoshop, Panopto, Articulate, Captivate, Audacity, Camtasia, etc.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate faculty learning and development through online, face-to-face, and self-paced workshop formats
  • Excellent project management and time-management skills enabling the individual to manage multiple projects and meet project deadlines
  • Communicated well with constituents at all levels, and work well with teams and independently.
  • Ability to manage and resolve expectations and conflicts.
