Director of Housing Operations Director of Housing Operations Director of Housing Operations Director of Housing Operations Coe College is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Housing Operations. The Director of Housing Operations is a live-on position that resides in a two-bedroom house on the edge of campus. Reporting to the Dean of Residential Experience, the Director of Housing Operations will provide oversight and leadership for operations, including occupancy management, first-year housing placements, returning student assignments, contracts, billing and coordinating summer and winter break housing. The Director of Housing Operations serves as the primary user and point of contact for the Residence by Symplicity housing management software.   • Supervise 1 senior resident assistant, 12 resident assistants and provide oversight to 350 students living in the College’s houses and apartments.
  • Coordinates May Term, Summer and Winter Break housing
  • Manages returning student housing selection process
  • Works with Admissions and Athletics to coordinate first-year match day process and place new students in housing assignments
  • Oversees room change process, coordinating steps with Assistant Directors.
  • Manages key assignments and check-in/check-out processes
  • Maintains accurate records in Residence by Symplicity and regularly reconciles with Jenzabar
  • Produce periodic roster updates and occupancy/capacity reports
  • Attend Student Life team meetings and work directly with the other team members
  • Serve as a hearing officer through the conduct system.
  • Serve on the primary crisis response team, including sharing on-call duty responsibilities with other Student Life team members.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by the Dean of Residential Experience.

    • Master's degree in student personnel, counseling or related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
    • Three to five years of progressive experience is required. Experience working at a residential, Liberal Arts College preferred.
    • Experience utilizing Residence by Symplicity, or similar software, preferred.
    • Successful completion of a background and driver check in accordance with Coe College policy.
    • Master's degree in student personnel, counseling or related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree in related field required.

    Coe College is a national, residential liberal arts college offering a broad array of programs in the arts, sciences and professions. The campus encompasses nearly 70 acres in the heart of Iowa’s second largest city, Cedar Rapids, and is adjacent to the MedQuarter Regional Medical District. 

    A member of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM), Coe enrolls 1,400 students and has approximately 415 full- and part-time employees. This includes nearly 90 full-time faculty members and 180 full-time staff members. The nine largest incoming classes in the college’s history have all come in the last nine years, with the most recent class totalling 436 students from 27 states and six countries.

    The college offers over 60 areas of study with a 4-4-1 academic calendar including an optional May Term. Nearly all students live on campus all four years, and 90% of students are involved in one or more co-curricular activities. 

    Producing 32 Fulbright Scholars in the last eight years, Coe has been named a top producer of U.S. Fulbright students when compared nationally with all colleges and universities. The college provides a highly personalized approach to education with an average class size of 16 students and a student faculty ratio of 11:1. Coe is ranked among the top 20% of all colleges and universities (according to U.S. News & World Report), and hosts a Phi Beta Kappa chapter.

    Coe’s nearly 70-acre campus includes 40 buildings and serves as an urban field station creating opportunities for students and faculty to research and study interaction of the city with the campus environment. An extension of campus includes Coe’s Wilderness Field Station, which is situated on 120 acres of land in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. 

    Recent capital improvement projects exceeding $40 million in investments include the renovation and expansion of Coe’s athletic facilities, renovation of Hickok Hall, an addition to and renovation of Peterson Hall of Science and renovation of Stewart Memorial Library to create the Learning Commons. 

    For the past decade, nearly 100% of Coe graduates have been employed, in grad school, or engaging in public service within nine months of graduation.     Our C3: Creativity, Careers, Community center is dedicated to working one-on-one with students to help them identify and land internship placements that match their unique interests and goals.
