Tenure-Track Faculty (open rank), in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)

With a dramatic increase in undergraduate and graduate enrollment, and a new building allowing us to expand, our award-winning and nationally ranked (#16 in best undergraduate programs) Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department, as well as the College of Engineering (ranked #19) at Rowan University, are growing. To accommodate this robust growth, we seek innovative teacher-scholars, committed to excellence in both teaching and research to join our dedicated family of faculty members. As we celebrate our 25th-anniversary, we are now planning to add several faculty members to our department and significantly broaden our areas of expertise and impact.

About These Positions

Our areas of focus for these open-rank searches include the following:

• Cyberphysical / embedded systems, IoT, smart systems, and devices
• Emerging AI and machine learning, their integration with autonomous, modern control systems and robotics
• Energy and power systems, including but are not limited to power electronics, energy storage and battery systems, renewable and alternative energy systems, micro/smart grid, and their integration with other cyber-physical systems
• Analog / digital VLSI design, solid-state systems, modern semiconductor systems, and processes
• Systems architecture with software/hardware integration for communication, networking, software-defined radio
• High performance and distributed computing, hardware security

Candidates with cross-cutting research interest that covers overlapping areas of above-listed topics are particularly encouraged to apply, so are candidates with exceptional credentials and promising research agenda in other related areas.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or a closely related area), though current Ph.D. students who have already established a significant body of work are also encouraged to apply if they are within one year of graduation. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, and show a proven record of, or exceptional potential for developing a sustainable and externally funded research program as well as a strong commitment to excellence in teaching.

Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching, research, and service efforts of our Department. For teaching, we expect our faculty to develop innovative curriculum components, including new courses in emerging areas, and teach core and elective ECE courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We also expect our tenured and tenure-track faculty to conduct high-quality research and disseminate their work in highly regarded conferences and journals, and of course, seek and obtain external funding for establishing a sustainable research program, enhancing the department’s research infrastructure, and help grow our new Ph.D. program. The successful candidate will mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, supervise student research and entrepreneurial efforts in our hallmark Engineering Clinic sequence, and contribute to our service activities to further our collective mission and vision at the department, college, and university levels.

At the college and department level, we are experiencing a significant increase in interest and enrollment in our programs for which we have recently completed our second state-of-the-art building. The ECE Department now occupies the entire third floor of a stunning new building.

Our new focus on providing more research experience to our students and faculty are helping us enhance our research infrastructure and capabilities (with a new high-performance computing and virtual reality center). We are also developing our South Jersey Technology Park for expanded industry collaboration and entrepreneurial activities, provide more funding for graduate assistants, and offer substantial and competitive start-up funds to all new tenure-track faculty.

These developments have now set the framework for initiating new multidisciplinary research areas to complement our existing expertise in embedded and smart systems, signal & image processing, wireless and optical communications, machine learning, advanced imaging & virtual reality, power systems including smart and microgrid, aerospace systems, next-generation computer architecture, and other fields.
