Job Summary

The Nursery Technician assists with the daily upkeep and maintenance of the Landscape Technology/Greenhouse grounds and with any other functions and services of the program and/or facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conducts appropriate repotting, plant propagation, weeding, and general management of nursery plants
  • Maintains the potting area in good order
  • Evaluates the environmental conditions of plants, such as irrigation, light and wind problems and reports these problems to the Greenhouse Nursery Manager
  • Assists the Greenhouse Nursery Manager in preparing plants and selling plants both at the Nursery; as well as, at plant sales on the main campus
  • Assists the Greenhouse Nursery Manager with facility concerns as they arise so as to maintain the nursery in good repair at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
  • 30 College Credits from a regionally accredited institution with one (1) year of related work experience; or Current MDC college student enrolled in the Landscape Technology Program
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Previous horticultural/nursery experience a plus
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated and able to carry out assigned tasks
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
