We are looking for highly motivated recent college graduate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Blanche Capel (https://sites.duke.edu/blanchecapellab/) in the Department of Cell Biology at Duke University Medical Center. This position will involve performing a variety of technical and research duties to support the ongoing studies in the lab. The Capel lab studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie sex determination in red-ea red slider turtles and transgenic mice.
Description of Research Activities
The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to perform, or be willing to learn, the following tasks in a research laboratory:
1.Support the maintenance of mouse colonies including setting up timed matings, checking matings each morning, and genotyping.
2.Order reagents and maintain supplies in the lab
3.Oversee maintenance of equipment in the lab.
4.Oversee lab safety compliance.
5.Respond to requests to send mice or reagents.
6. Help to write animal protocols and amendments
7.Involvement in experimental work as desired.Document procedures and collect data in an organized and complete fashion following the laboratory SOP.
·Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biology, genetics,or related fields at the time of employment.
·Experience in handling mice is preferred.
·Outstanding organizational skills
·Strong attention to detail and ability to carry out assignments in consistent and accurate manner
·Outstanding communication skills
· Ability to work well with people
