The University of Evansville, an independent, comprehensive, liberal arts university, seeks an experienced, strategic and resourceful professional to serve as its Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students.
Located in Evansville, Indiana, the University of Evansville, founded in 1854, enrolls over 2,000 students from 45 states and 48 countries. It offers bachelor’s and master’s level courses in three schools; the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education and Health Sciences, College of Business and Engineering. The Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students is responsible for providing oversight for residence life, public safety, student engagement, international student services, counseling services, career development, fitness center/recreational sports, and the student health center. This position also serves as the disciplinary officer for the student body and manages all responses that require behavioral assessments or threat assessments based on information received about the campus community. In addition, they represent the division to the President and other President’s Council members for strategic planning, fiscal oversight, compliance, enrollment and retention, and health and safety.
- Ability to develop a positive rapport with students, student leaders, parents, faculty, administrators, and potential donors.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and to recognize and anticipate potential problems/issues before they occur.
- Knowledge of national trends within higher education and student affairs.
- Familiarity with the culture of academia in higher education and effective organizational models for collaborative partnerships.
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in counseling, educational leadership, or related field, with a doctorate in educational leadership, management, or a related field preferred. The preferred candidate will have at least 8 years of progressive leadership experience in student affairs.
