Job Description Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Fitness and Recreation, the Assistant Director of Aquatics and Fitness is responsible for offering a variety of programs at the wellness center pool and the lakefront. Programs at the wellness center pool includes private swim lessons, lifeguard certification courses and special programs. The Assistant Director will also be in charge of managing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the wellness center pool and lakefront while providing excellent customer service in keeping with the Saint Leo’s Benedictine values.

Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Scheduling of pool events such as parties, summer camps, intramurals, etc.
  • Supervise the operation and develop the pool maintenance schedule including maintaining pool chemistry, filtration, and chemical feed systems.
  • Ensure chemicals in the pool are constantly monitored and comply with local, state, and federal guidelines for pool operation.
  • Perform maintenance as needed
  • Purchasing of equipment, gear, and supplies
  • Ensure all space and equipment used by the aquatics program at the pool and lakefront is in safe, operating condition and work with the appropriate maintenance staff to ensure necessary repairs are made.
  • Ensure all lifeguards and instructors possess and maintain appropriate American Red Cross certifications and comply to local, state,and federal regulations pertaining to pool and lakefront operations.
  • Work with the Director of Recreation to develop, manage, and monitor the aquatics program budget.
  • Manage the hiring, training, and staffing for the aquatics program including the lifeguards at the wellness center pool and the lakefront.
  • Manage 20 to 25 lifeguards, including hiring training and scheduling.
  • Work with the Director of Recreation to develop short and long term goals, coordinate special events, revise departmental policies and procedures, enhance student development, and interact with other campus entities.
  • Assist with the oversight of all recreation special events, gymnasium, fitness center, and pool.
  • Assist with intramural events as needed

Knowledge:

  • A successful candidate will have experience in aquatics programming, management, and experience supervising staff.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university required
  • Master’s degree preferred from a regionally accredited college or university specializing in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Recreation, or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge risk management, pool chemistry, state health code guidelines, and fiscal management preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Skills in planning, organizing, systematizing, implementing and follow up are essential.
  • Must possess and maintain minimum required aquatics certifications.
