Northwestern University’s Cook Family Writing Program invites applications for a continuing teaching track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction, beginning September 1, 2022. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. The initial contract for this position is three years.

Responsibilities include teaching six quarter-long undergraduate courses per academic year, or the equivalent, in a 2/2/2 schedule. Teaching opportunities will include Writing and Speaking in Business (English 282), Design Thinking and Communication (English 106) (team taught in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science), and first-year writing seminars. Depending on the needs of the department, teaching opportunities may also include expository writing, and intermediate and/or advanced composition. Candidates may also have teaching and/or administrative opportunities in the Cook Family Writing Program's peer writing centers and its collaborations with schools and faculty across the university. Requirements include a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., rhetoric and composition, English, education, technical or business communication, or applied linguistics). Preference will be given to excellent teachers who have two or more years experience teaching writing. Successful candidates may also have expertise in online/digital pedagogy, ESL/EFL writers, and/or (multi)media literacies. All candidates must demonstrate an interest in co-teaching and in working collaboratively with colleagues to develop course materials and pedagogy.

Review of applications will begin on December 15 until the position is filled.

Application materials—to be submitted online—include a letter of application, CV, teaching portfolio (which might include any of the following: statement of teaching philosophy, course syllabi, teaching evaluations from 2-3 recently taught courses, etc.), and a diversity statement. We require, in addition, two letters of recommendation, which must address excellence in teaching. The candidate will be asked to provide 2-3 contacts for the letters at the time the application is submitted. Referees will then be automatically contacted and asked to submit their letters. Applications accepted beginning November 1, 2021. Questions to: Meaghan Fritz ([email protected]) and/or Elizabeth Lenaghan ([email protected].)
