Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health Disparities - 000779

The University of Richmond Department of Psychology invites applications for a one-year, postdoctoral fellowship in health disparities, with an anticipated start date in January 2022.

The postdoctoral scholar will work collaboratively with Dr. Camilla Nonterah in the Department of Psychology, University of Richmond who is the principal investigator (PI) of a project which seeks to develop a culturally relevant and psychometrically sound measure for identifying patients diagnosed with end-stage renal disease who experience barriers in access to kidney transplantation, in an effort to help reduce disparities in this area. This position is funded by the Thomas F. and Kate Miller Jeffress Memorial Trust. Dr. Nonterah conducts research with both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, focused on the psychosocial aspects of solid organ transplantation and positive psychology. Her projects focus on improving access to kidney transplantation for minoritized groups, reducing health disparities, using strength-based approaches, and incorporating multicultural frameworks.

SUMMARY:

This fellowship is designed to enhance the candidate's scholarship and provide some teaching and mentoring experiences for a career in academia. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience with research design, data collection, a research background with some publications, and be knowledgeable in advanced statistics. Good interpersonal skills, the ability to work on a research team and collaborate independently on research with Dr. Camilla Nonterah and her students would make for a successful candidate. The candidate will teach one unit of undergraduate course work and provide research mentorship for undergraduate students. Training in a range of professional skills such as mixed-methods design, grant writing, project management, and networking will be available for interested candidates.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D.) in psychology, public health, behavioral science, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in advanced statistics and ability to use statistical packages such as IBM SPSS, MPLUS, and/or R.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and aptitude for communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational, time management skills, and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team in a collaborative setting.

Preferred:

  • Experience with psychometrics.
  • Familiarity with health psychology research methods.
