Job Details
The Boston University (BU) Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Office provides leadership in safety, technical guidance, emergency response support, training, and compliance for all laboratories at Boston University (BU) and Boston Medical Center (BMC). This position serves as a Biological Safety Officer (BSO). The BSO reports and works with the Research Safety Director to ensure activities related to the use of biological materials including recombinant and synthetic DNA in laboratories are performed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations, standards, policies and procedures, and best practices. The BSO develops and implements policies and procedures, tools, and guidance to help ensure the safety, stewardship and compliance in the use of biological materials. The position also manages and supervises safety specialists that are responsible for the oversight and verification of laboratory safety and compliance.
Required Skills
B.A./B.S. in Life Science or Health & Safety, proficient in Microsoft Office, and minimum of 5 years of related biological safety experience at a research institution. Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP) and/or Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP) preferred.
