The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at The Hospital for Sick Children is seeking to recruit an Academic Anesthesiologist with training/expertise in pediatric acute and chronic pain. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The candidate must also meet the criteria for appointment to the title of Clinician-Scientist, Clinician-Investigator, Clinician-Educator, Clinician-Teacher, or Clinician-Administrator as described by the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. Flexible effective start date is March 1, 2022.

The Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at SickKids Hospital plans to expand the clinical, educational and research capacities of the Department to meet the growing demands for specialized tertiary-level surgical and medical care provided by the Hospital. We are seeking candidates who have completed subspecialty training in Pediatric Anesthesiology, with additional training and expertise in pediatric acute and chronic pain. Clinical activities will include the perioperative care of children undergoing all types of surgeries, including neurosurgical, general/thoracic, plastic/craniofacial, orthopedic/spine, and otorhinolaryngology. The Department also provides care to children undergoing a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including diagnostic and interventional radiology, gastroenterology, oncology, and burn injury management. Clinical duties will include attending in our Pediatric Chronic Pain Clinic, one of the largest worldwide, inpatient Acute Pain Service, with the opportunity to attend the first pediatric Transitional Pain Service in North America. The Department is active in the education of medical students, anesthesia trainees, including, residents, and fellows affiliated with the University of Toronto, and interprofessional members of the pain services. Additional opportunities may include participation in Pre-Anesthesia Clinic, Simulation, Sedation services, Quality and Patient Safety, Bioinformatics, and a variety of administrative roles within the Department and hospital. Incumbents with strong research credentials and a prepared academic plan may have the opportunity to access world-class research support through our affiliation with the SickKids Research Institute.

The successful applicant must hold an MD degree (or equivalent), must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, and must have or be eligible for licensure in Ontario (independent or academic license). Candidates who demonstrate excellence in training or equivalent experience in a clinical or academic field supporting their appointment to a Clinician-Scientist/Investigator/Educator/Teacher/Administrator position would be at an advantage. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, and function effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment. All candidates must be proficient in English.


Remuneration will be competitive with other academic pediatric anesthesia positions in Canada, with a salary range of $200,000-$416,000 per year.
