Description:

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics of the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS) are seeking to recruit four academic general internists to be based at UHN - Toronto Western Hospital (TWH) and Toronto General Hospital. The successful candidate(s) should have an interest in inpatient and outpatient general internal medicine. Candidates must currently hold or be eligible for a University of Toronto full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor and should fulfill the academic position description of a Clinician Teacher or Clinician in Quality and Innovation. Effective start date is July 1, 2022, or sooner as mutually agreed upon.

These positions will have a 75%-25% or 90%-10% clinical component with the remainder of time devoted to teaching, quality improvement, and scholarship. The mix of responsibilities will depend on the successful candidate’s background and the needs of the specific site (TWH, SHS). Competitive candidates will possess outstanding communication, teaching, organizational and interpersonal skills that enable them to work collaboratively with other physicians, learners, hospital staff and administrators. Additional training in postoperative, addictions patient safety, quality or teaching is desired.

Additionally, 75%-25% candidates must have advanced methodological training (master’s degree, doctoral degree or equivalent). Candidates must also have a record of excellence in their area of interest. For applicants being considered for appointment as a Clinician Teacher, excellence will be assessed by the presence of scholarly contributions to teaching and education as evidenced by pedagogical innovation, curriculum development, experience in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and teaching awards. For Clinician in Quality and Innovation, excellence will be assessed by advanced training in quality improvement or equivalent, successful quality improvement initiatives, evidence of practice and/or equipment innovations, and invitations to significant conferences, and accolades.

Successful candidates must hold MD qualifications, be certified (or be eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Internal Medicine and be licensed (or be eligible for licensure) by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidates. Compensation will be negotiated and within the usual income range for an academic general internist in the Province of Ontario (estimated range is $200,000-$250,000 per year). Applications will be accepted until December 13, 2021 or until the positions are filled.
