This position will act as a first line supervisor managing Safety and Security personnel on a given shift. Depending on the qualifications, experience level and background of the successful candidate, this position will be classified as either a Sergeant (SGT) or a Corporal (CPL). The successful candidate will be responsible for the safety and security of the students, faculty, staff and visitors to Husson University. The Sergeant or Corporal also maintains a safe environment and minimizes potential for loss or damage on all property controlled by Husson University. The Sergeant or Corporal maintains the security of our Campus by patrolling areas on foot, in University vehicles and by enforcing Husson University rules and regulations, Community Conduct Code and state statutes.

The Sergeant or Corporal is required to recognize potential safety concerns and to take measures to mitigate these concerns. The Sergeant or Corporal responds to disturbances and mitigates disruptive conduct and respond to emergency situations as needed. The Sergeant or Corporal also coordinates with all local, county and state agencies as necessary to maintain the safety of the Campus. The Sergeant or Corporal supervises the officers of the department, and should be able to assume operational leadership and patrol supervision in the absence of superior
officers. The Sergeant or Corporal should be able to express themselves clearly and competently both verbally and in writing, and should be able to author and review investigative reports and make presentations to assembled groups.

• Must be available to cover other shifts due to absences, inclement weather situations, or other unforeseen circumstances
• In the absence of the AVP of Safety and Security or designee, be prepared to activate the Emergency Warning System upon orders from senior university administrators to include the University President, University Provost, University Vice President of Administration, and AVP-Safety and Security.
• Complete necessary departmental/University training as required. The
supervisor's role in this training process will be directly related to his/her training certification. These training sessions will include:
o First Aid/CPR/AED
o JPMA
o Baton/ASP/OC Training
• Schedule officers for patrol duties and events
• Manage the Work Study Program and supervise Security Assistants
• Have a valid Maine Driver's License and be able to drive department issued vehicles
• Review and correct all incident reports and assist officers with report writing skills
• Maintain a Criminal Trespass Warning (CTW) Journal and distribute updates to
Residential Life Staff
• Maintain and update all departmental materials and portals
• Be well groomed and wear the proper issued uniform
• Appropriately maintain all issued duty equipment
• Maintain a Vehicle Tow Journal
• Act as Fleet Commander
• Act as Supply Officer for Safety & Security department
• Act as Medical Supply Officer, which includes completing an inventory &
restocking of all medical bags and the medical supply kit located in the Security Office, and ensure adequate back-up supplies are kept on hand and place orders as necessary
• Act as Community Resource Officer – act as liaison with Residential Life staff
• Act as Field Training Officer for all subordinate officers – complete all necessary
training paperwork and ensure proper filing
• Inspect and maintain campus wide Automated External Defibrillators (AED) To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school education or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher preferred. The successful candidate will have experience in the security, military or law enforcement fields and supervisory experience is preferred. The successful candidate will have a history of making rational and reasonable decisions in uncertain circumstances. The successful candidate will have a history of working independently and taking decisive and safe actions without consulting a supervisor first.
