    Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in the area.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available immediately for two-three years for a project on food safety issues with pecans at the Agricultural Research Station under the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology, FVSU. The postdoctoral researcher will be part of a research team investigating various methods of pasteurization to protect pecans from microbial contamination, exploring various non-thermal intervention methods (pulsed UV light, essential oils, etc.) for reducing pathogens and extending the shelf-life and quality of pecans. The postdoctoral researcher will have opportunities to work with USDA-ARS scientists.

    The incumbent will conduct experiments, analyze data, prepare reports, and submit manuscripts in a timely fashion for the project and peer-reviewed publications, train, and mentor graduate students, and assist with proposal writing. Experience working outside of laboratory settings or fieldwork will be beneficial.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Food Engineering, Agricultural, Biological Engineering, or Food Science and Technology, Microbiology, or a related field. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in pulsed UV light, pasteurization, microbial inactivation, publication records, communication skills, and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team-based environment.
