Responsibilities and Duties
This position is responsible for auditing invoices and vouchers to assure they are completed properly, all supporting documentation is in place, appropriate approvals are present, and the purchase conforms to university and State policies.  The Accounts Payable Clerk posts payment transaction data to PeopleSoft Financials accounting system and reconciles processed work by verifying entries. Administer policies set by the University, University System of Maryland, and the State of Maryland. Follow privacy laws and audit requirements placed on the daily function of the position.

 

 Other Duties include:

 

    Resolving problems related to auditsWorking with campus departments and vendors to resolve any problemsExecuting university policies and procedures for the finance systems, funds distribution and financial executionReviewing and preparing invoices for payment while monitoring the budget of different campus departmentsCoordinating wire transfer payments processServing as point of contact to campus departments for financial and budget issues by providing advice, assistance, and guidance


Qualifications and Skills
Successful candidates will have...

 

    High School Diploma or equivalent2-4 years related experience in Accounts Payable or related accounting experienceGeneral knowledge of bookkeeping principles, mathematical methods and techniques and accounting standards Skill in performing mathematical computations; in reviewing and processing financial documents; in reconciling financial data; in operating calculators, automated office equipment, personal computers and financial software and in inputting dataAbility to communicate effectively over the telephone, in writing and to establish and maintain effective work relationships.Ability to provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced environmentAbility to multi-task and have strong organizational skillsAbility to understand and administer policies set by the University, University System of Maryland, and the State of Maryland and the ability to understand privacy laws and audit requirements placed on the daily function of the position.Experience in a University setting preferred
 

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
