Researcher 1, Plant Physiology/Phytonutrient Laboratory

 

The plant physiology/phytonutrient laboratory in The Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Tennessee is seeking qualified applicants for a regular, full-time Researcher 1 position.

 

Typical work duties of the selected candidate may include:

    Supporting the PI and graduate students in the design, management, and execution of field, greenhouse, and analytical laboratory research projects.Organizing daily technical operations including coordination and allocation of equipment and space. Analyzing samples using laboratory equipment such as GCMS, HPLC, ICPMS, and analytical extraction systems.Maintaining laboratory equipment, cold rooms, and greenhouse systems in good working condition. Analyzing and reporting results.Supervising and training students
 

The candidate will be involved in a wide range of research activities in laboratory, growth chambers, indoor farms, greenhouses, and field research spaces. The goal of the program is to increase our understanding of plant physiology/biochemistry in order to develop production systems that increase yield, improve nutritional quality, and increase energy efficiency and economic sustainability of specialty crop production systems. This position may require travel to outlying locations (10-15%).

 

Salary: Commensurate with training and experience

Qualifications
Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Plant Sciences, Biochemistry, or a related field and two years’ plant physiology/biochemistry or analytical chemistry related experience in a research laboratory.

 

Experience with laboratory equipment for chemical analysis (e.g. GC, GCMS, HPLC, HPLCMS, ICPMS, and analytical extraction techniques) is highly desired. The candidate must possess excellent written and oral English skills, be self-motivated, highly organized, and willing to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students to conduct laboratory, greenhouse, growth chamber, and indoor farm research.
