The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of medical physics and therapeutic radiological physics. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. ABR board eligibility in therapeutic radiological physics is required, and ABR board certification is preferred or expected within the first two years.

Teaching responsibilities may include teaching and training of radiation oncology residents, medical physics residents, medical physics graduate students, etc.

Clinical responsibilities may include supporting a full range of clinical physics activities, such as stereotactic body radiation therapy, radiosurgery, linac-based radiation therapy, brachytherapy, etc. at Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia.

Recent graduates and current senior residents are encouraged to apply. Penn Radiation Oncology Pennsylvania Hospital is located at 800 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA. Pennsylvania Hospital, part of Penn Medicine, is the nation's first hospital, and was founded in 1751. The Radiation Oncology Department at Pennsylvania Hospital has a focused stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) and radiosurgery (SRS) program. It has a Varian Edge System, a CyberKnife system, a Varian Truebeam, and supports an active Gammaknife radiosurgery program at the nearby Penn Gamma Knife Center. Physicists at Pennsylvania Hospital work closely with the physics team at Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine to provide integrated teaching to residents and graduate students enrolled in the medical physics graduate program. The department of radiation oncology has a hub-and-spoke model for developing and deploying new clinical technologies across 15 Penn Medicine network sites. The department has a range of innovative clinical projects, including proton and x-ray FLASH therapy, real-time adaptive radiotherapy, radiosurgery, motion management, auto-planning, robustness optimization, etc. With increasing needs in automation and clinical decision support, candidates with interests in teaching and developing novel treatment technologies will be preferred. Demonstration of clinical translation of research/new technology is essential. This position will start on July 1st, 2022.
