The Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Childrens Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM) is seeking a BC/BE pediatric neurosurgeon for a faculty position to be located both in Colorado Springs at the Briargate Clinic and Childrens Hospital Colorado – Colorado Springs, and at Childrens Hospital Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus, in Aurora Colorado, just east of Denver. The candidate must be thoroughly trained and experienced in pediatric neurosurgery and qualify for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank or higher in the CU SOM.

Approximately 75% of the successful candidate’s time will be based on Colorado Springs, and 25% will be on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The candidate will be fully incorporated into the division of pediatric neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital Colorado. The candidate will be tasked with further developing the growing general pediatric neurosurgery practice in the Southern Colorado region, as well as leadership roles in the multidisciplinary Craniofacial and Chiari Malformations programs.

Children’s Hospital Colorado – Colorado Springs opened in June 2019. It is a 115 bed facility physically connected to the UC Health Memorial North hospital, with its very active Women’s and Neonatal Center. It is a Pediatric Level 2 trauma center located in the northern part of the city, across the street from the CU Briargate Specialty Clinics for Children. Primary responsibilities on the Colorado Springs campus will include inpatient consultation, and performance of pediatric neurosurgery procedures. Outpatient clinical evaluation and management of patients with pediatric neurosurgical disease is based at the Briargate Clinic. The hospital and Briargate neurosurgery clinic have full-time administrative and RN support, laboratory, and radiology facilities. The position will entail on-call responsibilities in Colorado Springs.

Children’s Hospital Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus is an academic 450 bed Pediatric Level 1 trauma center, associated with the University of Colorado Department of Neurosurgery and its residency program. Primary responsibilities at the Anschutz Medical Campus will include outpatient clinical evaluation and management of patients with pediatric neurosurgical disease, and performance of neurosurgery procedures occupying roughly 25% of one’s time. There will not be on-call responsibility at the Anschutz Campus.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, education and teaching of medical students, pediatric neurosurgery fellows, and others will be an important responsibility. The successful candidate will have excellent teaching and education skills, and excellent communication and team skills. The candidate will have completed fellowship in good standing in Pediatric Neurosurgery at an ABPNS-approved fellowship program (or equivalent), MD (or equivalent) degree and be American Board of Neurological Surgery Certified/Eligible. The candidate will join 1 other MD provider and 1 RN at our Colorado Springs location, and 5 other MD providers, 7 Advanced Practice Providers and 2 RNs at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Salary will be based on rank and includes an excellent benefits package. All faculty appointments are within the University of Colorado SOM, one of the top public medical schools in the nation. Clinical duties in the inpatient and outpatient setting for a total of 3 weeks in 4, performing general pediatric neurosurgical procedures, with the active development of programs in multidisciplinary craniofacial surgery and treatment of Chiari malformations.Provide consultative and call support services for CHCO and affiliated healthcare partners.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at: $475,000 (Assistant Professor), $500,000 (Associate Professor), and $600,000 (Professor).

Minimum Qualifications for Assistant Professor:

  • Doctor of Medicine Graduate
  • Board certified/eligible in Neurosurgery
  • Fellowship Training in Pediatric Neurosurgery
Minimum Qualifications for Associate Professor:

  • Doctor of Medicine Graduate
  • Board certified in Neurosurgery
  • 6 or more years of experience as a neurosurgeon, in an academic environment, desired but not required
  • Fellowship Training in Pediatric Neurosurgery
Minimum Qualifications for Professor:

  • Doctor of Medicine Graduate
  • Graduate of an American Board of Neurological Surgery certified residency program,
  • Board certified in Neurosurgery
  • 10 or more years of experience as a neurosurgeon, in an academic environment, desired but not required
  • Fellowship Training in Pediatric Neurosurgery
