Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:UNC Greensboro is a minority-serving institution with an undergraduate population of 49% historically underrepresented students and 67% female-identifying students. Position Summary:The School of Music at UNC Greensboro welcomes applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Musicology position beginning Fall 2022. We seek a versatile teacher/scholar committed to implementing the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of their practice and who can articulate how systems of inequity have shaped both their discipline in particular and university environments in general, as well as their vision for equitable transformation of these institutions. Position start date is August 1, 2022.
Responsibilities:
Teach courses including a globally engaged undergraduate core for music majors; upper-level courses, honors courses, and graduate seminars in areas of expertise; and courses in musicological research and writing. Cultivate an active program of research and publication. Serve on graduate thesis and dissertation committees. Engage actively in the reimagining of the curriculum and the decentering of the canon(s). Participate in the intellectual life of the School of Music and the University. Provide service to the School, University, and professional organizations.
PhD in musicology, ethnomusicology, or a related field by August 1, 2022, demonstrated success in teaching at the university level, ongoing research activity with strong record of (or potential for) publication, and strong leadership and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Expertise in more than one area.
