Job Summary:

The Department of Communication at Georgia College is seeking a tenure-track professor to teach courses in film, television, and digital media production.

The deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on November 28, 2021. Applications must be completed in the online Georgia College employment application website. Review of applicants will begin December 3, 2021. The start date will be August 1, 2022.

Instruct academic courses and support the department, college and university goals by supporting the academic environment to benefit the educational mission of the University.

The faculty employee is expected to contribute to the departments educational mission. Successful candidates will be expected to instruct our students in the respective disciplines at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The faculty employee is expected to have:
1. understanding of the principles associated with teaching and learning.
2. strong communication skills and successful higher education teaching experience.
3. a developing research agenda.

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -

Teaching Responsibilities:
The candidate will teach a variety of courses in film, television, and digital media production, which may include but is not limited to intro level video production, advanced film and television production, writing for digital media, documentary, preproduction, multi-cam studio production, capstone, and Video 360.Proficiency in and ability to teach the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of production software including Audition, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and other production software as required.

Faculty employees also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses. All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.

The candidate will also advise Bobcat Media Production, the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) student media chapter.

- Instructional load teaching in the areas of expertise within the academic discipline

- Regular course meetings and instruction

- Mentoring Students

- Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.

Faculty - Working with students:
The candidate will mentor students with individual and class projects, prepare students for professional careers in the field, and collaborate with other creative programs across campus.
Contributions to the continuing development of undergraduate programming in the Department of Communication and significant input regarding facilities and equipment planning and decision-making are also expected.

Faculty - Service to Institution - Service is an essential responsibility of all faculty in the Department of Mass Communication. Service is fulfilled through departmental, college, and university participation.

Faculty contribute service to the institution. Examples include the following:
*Department, college, and university committee memberships and offices
*Programs directed and advised
*Participation in special programs or projects
*Other service in the institution

Faculty - Scholarship and Creative Activity - The preferred candidate has a record of ongoing creative works as a filmmaker with working knowledge and experience in producing content to include commercials for clients, narrative films, documentaries, television/studio productions, informational/educational videos, and other content for a variety of video-based media platforms such at YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Applicants must have a terminal degree in film, television, and/or digital media production (either the MFA or doctorate) or a closely related field by the date of appointment. Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 ( (faculty credentials)).

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Hiring preference will be given to faculty who demonstrate an understanding of Georgia College's mission and who are enthusiastic about working closely with high-achieving students within an academic community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through learning and scholarship.

Prior teaching experience at the University level is preferred. Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies is highly desirable.

Ability to manage multimedia classroom implementing new technology and engaged learning techniques.
Ability to engage in professional development through attendance in training on and off campus.
Ability to participate in service throughout the university.
Ability to engage in scholarship and creative activity related to area of expertise and to incorporate current scholarship in the field in classes taught.
