The Higher Education Program at the University of Maryland, College Park is seeking applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor with research and teaching expertise in higher education. This is a tenure track position and is scheduled to begin August 2022. The Higher Education program is housed within the Higher Education, Student Affairs, and International Education Policy (HESI) program area within the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education (CHSE), one of three departments in the College of Education. The Higher Education program encourages collaboration across the HESI program area, department, college, and university. The Higher Education program prepares students for leadership positions in higher education administration, policy analysis, and scholarship. The program encourages and expects commitment to participation in program service and leadership from the faculty members as part of a collaborative and supportive department culture. 

The Higher Education Program seeks applicants who have an earned doctorate in higher education or social science or related fields, such as economics, public policy, sociology, psychology, student affairs, communication, government and politics, etc. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, teaching graduate courses in higher education, maintaining an active research agenda, advising graduate students, serving on doctoral dissertation committees, and providing service and leadership to the program area, department, college, university, and community. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned doctoral degree in higher education or a related field
  • Demonstrated interest and/or commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education and society

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience with issues of policy and systems change broadly defined;
  • Expertise in two or more of the following areas: organizational studies, policy, evaluation, race/ethnicity, diversity/equity, data science, college access/choice, history or other relevant and emerging issues;
  • Experience in teaching graduate courses and advising graduate students
  • Experience working with faculty, staff, students from diverse backgrounds, and contributing to a climate of inclusivity
  • Potential to increase the program’s national reputation, research productivity, and grant solicitation
  • Experience with or interest in innovative and engaging learning tools and practices
  • Record of or potential for external funding
  • Ability to advise students and dissertations with various methodological interests (e.g., quantitative and qualitative methods)
