The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of Computer Science. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2022 or shortly thereafter.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science in a computer-aided surgery and medical robotics topic by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. We seek applications from candidates conducting research on computer-aided surgery and medical robotics with postdoctoral training experiences (at least 2 years), international research experience, and a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Applicants must demonstrate strong experience in interdisciplinary and translational research in the areas of endoscopic computer vision, augmented reality, medical continuum robots, autonomous procedures such as soft tissue motion compensation or laser surgery as well as innovative surgical instruments and robots. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level; to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program; and to contribute to the enrichment of undergraduate programs in the department.

The successful candidate is expected to establish a research program and teaching portfolio that bridges between disciplines and fosters interdisciplinary collaborations in computer science, engineering, natural science, and medicine. We welcome exceptional candidates who transcend traditional backgrounds, and we seek those whose research and teaching interests complement our existing departmental strengths in robotics. The successful candidate will have their graduate appointment with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (https://bme.utoronto.ca/).

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence that can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier, a teaching statement, sample course syllabi, and teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference.
